Cider Bourbon Cocktail

Happy early Thanksgiving everyone!  Here is a quick festive fall drink that can easily be shaken-up in seconds, and you probably have a lot of the ingredients already on hand.  It would go really nice with some light appetizers or cheese and crackers.  Whatever you do, don’t skip the pinch of cayenne!

Cider Bourbon Cocktail

Adapted from Everyday Food, December 2011

1 cup of good quality apple cider
6 ounces Bourbon
4 teaspoons fresh lemon juice
2-4 teaspoons pure maple syrup
cayenne pepper

Fill four glasses and a cocktail shaker with ice.  Add the cider, bourbon, lemon juice, and maple syrup.  If you like your drinks on the sweeter side, I would go with the larger amount of syrup.  Shake vigorously and then strain into the glasses.  Add a very small pinch of cayenne pepper to the top of the glass (don’t skip they cayenne, it adds a nice little kick!).

This looks good. I definitely will make it on New Years day. It is going to be cold here in Rochester and will enjoy it while cooking dinner. I have most of the ingredients I just have to get my apple cider at shutts, they have the best apple cider in town.
    Thank you

Ohhhh, this cocktail looks sooooo goooood!! I don’t own a cocktail shaker, though… do you think it would be okay if I just mixed it with, I don’t know, a whisk?
