Banana Doggie Ice Cream

It’s been a while since I made Aida homemade dog treats, so it seemed like I was well over due to make her something special; and I suppose I’m feeling a little guilty, since we’re going on vacation this weekend and she’s going to a kennel.  Don’t get me wrong, it’s not just any kennel.  It’s a super posh doggie kennel with all sorts of awesome perks, but I still feel bad.

I adapted the recipe ratios by reducing the amount of frozen yogurt, increasing the banana, and decreasing the honey.

This was really easy to whip up, and I’m sure your furry friend would enjoy it any time of the year!  I know Aida really likes them; she’s been running to the fridge even more than usual lately…

Banana Doggie Ice Cream

adapted from Big Dog Boutique

18 oz plain fat-free yogurt (3 small 6 oz containers or about half 1-32 oz container)
2 ripe mashed bananas
2 tablespoons peanut butter
1 tablespoon honey
ice-cube tray(s) or small bathroom cups

Mix all these ingredients together in a food-processor or blender and blend until smooth and creamy.

Pour into ice-cube trays or paper cups.  I used paper cups and portioned the ice cream into about 2 oz per cup servings.  Aida weighs about 65 lbs, and I thought this was a good amount for her.  Freeze ice cream; I stored the frozen cups in a plastic air-tight container in the freezer.  If you use an ice-cube tray, I would recommend placing it in a large zip-lock bag to prevent freezer burn.

When ready to serve pop out one serving from the ice-cube tray or remove one paper cup from the freezer.  Let it rest in doggie dish on the counter for a few minutes to soften up slightly (depending on how warm or cold your house is).  If you used the paper cup method like I did, obviously remove paper before serving.

I had no idea dogs could have peanut butter and bananas, probably because I don’t have a dog. The ice cream sounds very nice though, I would want to try some, too!
