The Beauty Spot

I am not really a big fan of Gin – I’m more of a bourbon/rye kind of girl. Every time I try a Gin cocktail like a Negroni or a Martini  I think maybe, just maybe I’ll suddenly realize it’s delicious. But the inevitable face pucker ensues at the first tiny sip, like I just shoved an entire handful of Sour Patch Kids in my mouth; entertaining for Mike, not so enjoyable for me. However, this cocktail might be just the tipping point I needed to get used to Gin. The sweetness of the Chartreuse and Vermouth seemed to mellow the Gin; I think it is very easy to drink – totally face pucker free.

The Beauty Spot Cocktail

Adapted slightly from SAVEUR

As ridiculous as it may sound, make sure you use fresh ice; those cubes hanging in the back of your freezer for far too long have probably picked up all sorts of funky tastes that you don’t want to add to your cocktail. Water from the ice is an important part of the cocktail.

2 oz. gin
1 oz. vermouth (I highly recommend Carpano Atica)
½ oz. green Chartreuse
Garnish – twist of orange peel

Combine liquor with ice in a cocktail shaker or large glass. Stir the mixture thoroughly (about 40 to 60 rotations), until well chilled and strain into a coupe. Garnish with an orange twist.
